APP Newsletter 25 April 2007

Dear colleague,

Recent APP news in the Netherlands:

  • The APP symposium on 8 February at ASTRON was well organised and well attended with over 50 participants and many new scientific results. All of this despite a weather forecast including a warning not to travel that day.
  • The 9th APP symposium will be organised by the Kapteyn Institute in Groningen on 12 October 2007.
  • On Friday 13 April the ASPERA 'National Day' for the Netherlands was organised at NIKHEF in Amsterdam. The meeting was well attended by high representatives of all APP stakeholders in the Netherlands. They gave short overviews of their organisations. Together they gave a good outline of the Dutch situation, and the way astroparticle physics research is organised in the Netherlands. A vivid discussion about the way Dutch research funding is organised, made the situation clear for the foreign as well as the Dutch participants. The lively discussions, informal interactions and exciting atmosphere made the Dutch National Day a true success.
  • ASPERA will send out their first News-letter this week. We decided to use the 'Astroparticle Mailing List' for the distribution of this first issue. You'll receive an e-mail from "ASPERA this month" (Aspera.Newsletter@cern.ch) with a link to this first issue. We strongly recommend you to subscribe to this News-letter to be able to follow all European Astroparticle developments in future issues.
  • The 2nd APP roadmap meeting will be organised in Amsterdam, 20-21 September 2007. On the website http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=9710 information will become available soon.
  • 2007 is a very active year in the search for new APP funding; a variety of groups and individuals have submitted a FOM programme proposal, an NWO investment proposal, several FOM open competition proposals, two (novel) European Research Council proposals and one VENI-fellowship proposals.

Best regards,
